More importantly, what is the clock source - is it internal, or  
external? If everything is set normally but the clock is external it  
could be getting a poor clock signal.

Also, are you on OS 2.0? 1.x versions could be wonky here and there.  
2.0 is very stable, IMHO, and your symptoms are definitely NOT normal.
