As far as a patch editor/librarian, Proteum.  Free for download at 
http://www.emigr8.me.uk/ - been using it for a while and it seems to 
be pretty stable and good.

PAttern editor, I'm really not sure. I usually just do my editing on 
the XL unless I'm doing something that requires an extreme amount of 
precision. If I was going to use software to edit the patterns, I 
would probably say Cubase, but it's just as fast to edit on the 
machine once you learn your way around it.

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
