How do you use your command station on your synth setup

2008-05-20 by Mauricio Balma

Guys¨

How do you get the best of your command station.
I wonder wich applications are giving to this great synth.
I use only hardware, and two command stations are the brains of a MIDI setup. They control other four sintetizers, but I do not use them only as sequencers, but also as tone generators.
But mainly, I use the following sounds from them:
percussions: I use lots of congas, bongoes, timbals and other percussions from them.
Snares: I have beat garden rom, it comes with great snares so I use them a lot
arpegios: mainly, my arpeggios have a length of 32, are user, and sometimes have the link function, so they work most of the times with 12 waves. I program during hours knobs in order to create randomized effects over each one of the waves, so the arppegio is rich on variations and never repeats in the same way.
Also, I work with arpeggios that does not loop and only appear at the end of a patter as a break or a bridge. Generally, this arppegios have non tuned sounds as percusssions.
some subbasses: despite I have other synths that are great on basses, I love some subs from the mp7 and the beat garden rom.

I hardly use kicks from the commande station, I also avoid most of the pads except for the beatiful and wide LIFEDREAM.

The synths that I control with my command station are:

  XL7 controlling a Roland V synth and a Access Virus T1
MP7 controlling a Korg Electribe EMX and a Waldorf Q

I love the hability of the command station to transmit MIDI messages with a low latency. This synth, despite being a rompler between great VAs, can produce very PHAT sounds that can reach some of the big synths.

So, I don´t know why I´m `posting this, maybe I´m not getting the best of them, one of my big problems with the command station, is transponsing sounds (it´s so uncomfortable) and creating bridges...
