Thanks Aaron for that clarification.... If you're changing preset *assignment* (like use preset 7 on track 1, etc) you need to have data on the track for it to retain the settings. This is so you can have empty tracks that don't retain settings (allowing you to devote a channel to playing live where the sequencer won't touch it). If you meant that you're editing the preset (like turning the Fc knob or adjusting an envelope or something) you have to save the preset. The sequencer won't automatically save the preset for you. Like Bob is saying, the XL-7 doesn't work the same as a 505 or something. You store your custom presets in the four user banks of presets, then the sequencer stores which custom preset you used per channel. I think you meant the first (retaining preset *selection*). If so, just ensure that you have data on the appropriate tracks. Simply recording a volume event will do the trick. Easiest way is to go into step record and wiggle the volume knob for the track or touch the pitch strip. -Aaron ----- Original Message ---- From: Bob S. <tttsystems@...> To: xl7@yahoogroups.com Sent: Sunday, June 15, 2008 4:03:59 PM Subject: Re: [xl7] Why do the channel presets stay the same when I change patterns? Hello Not all synths & drum machines are of the same architecture....the XL7 is more like a synth/sequencer than a drum machine in some respects. Presets are not stored in the patterns as they are done, say in a Roland drum machine. Instead, they are stored in the multi setup. This is similar to a pure sequencer that does not store what sounds are used directly in the sequence. In short, the sound/preset used by the sequencer/pattern/song must be stored in the multi, located under the global menu. If you need to change the "arrangement" of sounds, then a new "arrangement" is needed and stored in a new multi....this is in the manual and I hope my explanation clarifies it a bit... This is driving me nuts! I have an xl 7 and have thrown midi drum loops into each of the first 4 empty pattern banks. I go to the first pattern and change the presets for each of the channels then save. I go to the second pattern and change the presets for each of the channels then save that pattern. When I go back to the first pattern the channel presets are still assigned to the presets that I saved for pattern 2. Is this machine incapable of saving presets assigned to channels for each pattern or what? Why are the presets set to the same thing regardless of pattern? What good are 1024 patterns if the sounds for all of them are the same 32 presets???? [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] ------------------------------------ Yahoo!
