Re: Best - most interesting ROMs

2014-08-06 by napravobg@...

I just got the Pure Phatt ROM, and although it's generally perceived to be fairly boring, I like it a lot.

Drums are good, and sit well in mixes. I also have Composer and ZR, and they compliment those very well.

Synths and Keys are OK but not amazing, (a bit of overlap here with other ROMS, especially with a tweak ) but reasonably OK as inclusion on the ROM if used as 'stand-alone'

Basses not really exceptional or much different from my other Proteus Roms ( Composer for instance) and tweaking any bass on any ROM could fairly easily generate sounds similar to most of the Pure Phatt bass examples IMO.

However, the guitars are ultra-critical for me as a Starr Labs Ztarist, (a guitar-like fingerboard with 144 touch -sensitive switches on-board )
Ztar is my main instrument, rather than keyboards and I layer de-tuned guitars and clav-type voices, to come up with a lot of different 'zither-type' patches...and I use guitars with Virtuoso strings and bass for example, a lot.

I find the Pure Phatt guitar voices very useable, whereas I didn't find the Composer ROM guitars (or the ZR ROM guitars ( including the General Midi guitars on the ZR ROM ) to be half as good, or half as useable.

Of course, it's 'horse for courses', but personally, I like the Pure Phatt a lot.

Seven out of ten..

Question to the Group.
I have the MP7 with supplied Rom, and all my research says it's the Pure-Phatt Rom..

However, the sounds are completely different on my MP7 to those on the Pure Phatt.
An unscrewing of the case and a glance at the chip inside just says 'Drums'.. Does anyone know anything more?
Advice anyone?
