Emu XL-7 & MP-7 User's Group

the FX thing is getting a little wierd.  I understand the sends and stuff, 
but I'm having a hard time locating all the paramiters in the millions of 
menus.

Also, if I mess with a preset sound does it automaticly save that sound? 

>>>Nope, you need to manually save it.  Any Preset or Pattern with an 
asterisk next to it's name has been changed from the saved version and 
will need to be saved if you want to keep the changes.  I can only stress 
it so much, but developing good save habits is essential, do it often, and 
do it to multiple locations.  Use E-Loader whenever you finish a Pattern 
or Song, losing your data due to unforeseen circumstances does happen! <<<

or is that where multsets come in?  Currently I'm under the assumption 
that multis are mainly for use if you aren't using the sequencer because 
doesn't the each pattern save the same basic data??

>>>Multisetups are really just snapshots of all the setting in the XX-7 at 
any given time.  This includes all your FX, Current Presets, MIDI, Global, 
and Arp options, pretty much everything.  There's a ton of uses for 
Multisetups, here's a few I use them for:

1. To load my live setting quickly.  When I play out, I need to have my 
XL-7 respond to MIDI clock from my Micro Sync, and this way I don't heve 
to go througha ll my menus setting that up, I can just load a previously 
saved multisetup.

2. To load up new Program Mode settings for controlling various 
softsynths.  I'll set up the knobs to control say Reason's subtraktork 
then save that as a nwe multisetup called "Subtraktor" (go figure!).  That 
way if i need to hands on control a different softsynth, I just call up 
the appropriate multi, such as Pro-52, or Mecury 1.  Yeah you've got to 
set them up initially, but after that it's really quick to be ready to 
tweak away.

3. Sometimes I'm sequencing a tune in Cubase where I just need a couple 
Presets form the XL-7, but don't have a Pattern created for them.  This 
way I can acll up all my appropriate Presets on each channel, set their 
levels and pans, and save the multi to use the next time I work on the 
song.
