I am pretty sure it is not mixed to the digital out. This would require a A/D conversion. If it did this, it woul be a nifty A/D converter, allowing for digital effects and then out of spdif or AES/EBU to digital in on computer. As it is though, since you can have an insert in, without necessarily sending out, then the outs act like a 4 channel summation line mixer sending to the headphone and main outs. Not bad if you have a couple extra sound modules but no mixer in a live situation.
