Reason has seven possible MIDI sources that are set in the preferences under MIDI and ADVANCE MIDI. The ones in the MIDI screen are designed to be the kind of controller like a keyboard or knob-box you would use on a track-by-track basis to control Reason. This is very much like the way the XX-7 rechannelized the pads and knobs into the active sequencer track. When you wish to control Reason from an external sequencer the way to do this is to go to the ADVANCED MIDI preference and set one of the four channels to the desired MIDI port the XX-7 is connected to. This is essentially a MIDI cable connected directly into the Reason rack, bypassing the Reason sequencer. In the Rack's MIDI control "device" you can assign each MIDI channel on one of the four possible ports (A-D) to any current bit of gear in the rack. So if you have a Redrum you want controlled by the XX-7's channel 1, a Subtraktor on channel 2, and the mixer on channel 16 you would set up the assignments accordingly in the system control panel on the rack. This setup does not work too well if the main Reason control device is also assigned to the XX-7. You could set things up so that something like MIDI channel 1 is always the Reason controller if needed, but that is only helpful if your recording into the Reason sequencer. Keep in mind that the XX-7's rechannelizing will still be doing its thing (if enabled). So you will need to change channels/tracks from the XX-7 to direct MIDI to another Reason instrument for live play and/or control via the knobs. and of course you will need your sequence tracks assigned to the right combination of channel and external output. drk www.delora.com/music www.mp3.com/zdrk drk.iuma.com On 1/27/03 11:30 AM, "Alien <neilaworking@...>" <neilaworking@...> wrote: > Finally just recently moved to really screwing around with Reason, I > have to admit that I've been really digging on the avenues the > program leaves open. > > I've been using the Command Station to control the bulk of reason, > and during the course of such had come up with a few questions that I > was hoping some of you would be able to answer. > > 1.
