By the way, the sub I built is strictly for the home theater setup. 
For tracking/mixing purposes, I have a pair of NHT Pro A-20's.  They
are pretty amazing.  I managed to get a great deal on them after one of
E-mu's trade shows.  NHT gave us a sweet option to buy them instead of
returning them (they were lent to us), so I picked up a pair.  I think
they're 250W RMS (400w peak) into each speaker, with a sealed
enclosure, and a specially designed crossover built into the
amp/control module.  They've designed it with enough power and custom
filtering to achieve room shaking, yet EXTREMELY tight bass from a
small sealed monitor.  I think they're something like 43Hz-20kHz +/-
1dB if I remember correctly.  Now if I just had a better room to put my
studio in...
