Another option for anyone who is going to be using multiple digital signals and worrying about syncing is to use a digital patchbay with independant syncing. Turns out if you end up running a lot of gear you can really introduce jitter, even though most clocks are steady after the signal gets around a bit you can get enough jitter to really cause prollems. Oh well. Some of the digital patchbays clean up clock as they retransmit, and they aren't that expensive compared to the headaches they save you... Can't seem to find the articles on that sort of thing online, but here's a site that has a whole section on sync devices...??? http://www.warhogprod.com/en-us/dept_118.html Doh, I'll keep my eyes open for the article Andre -----Original Message----- From: Ravi Ivan Sharma [mailto:noision1@...] Sent: Friday, April 04, 2003 7:20 PM To: xl7@yahoogroups.com Subject: [xl7] Command Station digital clock quality To the Emu guys mainly WHERE's the OS? No just kidding, I have a real question: I have a Motu 1224 and if I set the XL7 to send AES signal instead of spdif I can feed the AES digital input on the 1224. However, in order to not have noise, I have to set the 1224 to let the XL7 be THE clock master (since the xl7 has no clock in). My question is: since the clock in the 1224 is apparently supposed to be pretty good (motu claims it is better than the clock in the 324 pci card interface which is another available option), how does the clock in the XL7 fare in comparison. Sound on Sound mag has me up in arms (not really) about the need for a solid jitter free clock and that is why good studios spend the big bucks on external master clocks. Of couse since the XL7 has no clock in, the only way to not have it be the master clock is to send it through a sample conversion unit, etc. So, how is emu willing to say the clock in the Command Stations are? better than the motus? If so, can you prove it? Thanks (figured you might be bored after working so hard on the OS) :) Ravi [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] To unsubscribe from this group, send an email to: xl7-unsubscribe@yahoogroups.com Your use of Yahoo!
