Yeah, I understand what you're after. In this case (with so much gear to
control) it may be better to go down the DJ mixer route, or even something
like one of the smaller Mackie's. That would let you solo the one
instrument with a push of a button, and then bring everything else back in
as you describe. The XX-7's are pretty comprehensive when it comes to
external control, but not that comprehensive :)

Subject: : [xl7] live midi play messages
realm,
i have additional drum boxes and sequencers, and i am trying to
simplifly things in a
live set up. i usualy dont program songs into my drum boxes, i just
switch patterns and
patches on the fly. unfortunatly sometime there is a huaman timing issue.
i would like to
be able to mix songs back and forth from my hopefuly new xl7 and my 909. i
also have a
505, and er1. sometimes when i come to a part in a song where i only add
an extra
measure to kinda drop it off, and then slam it back in i have to create an
extra pattern that
is 1 measure long and switch all my equipment to play one measure then
back to the
main pattern. i would like to be able to just stop all my equipment while
that extra
measure plays out on say the xl7, and start them all from the begining of
the pattern. it
would be kidna like treating each instrument as a record and just cueing
it up, and then
be able to trigger it, at the same time as i trigger another instrument.
this makes sense to
me. i hope you get it. if i just have to practice harder, thats what i
will do, but there just
has to be a way to control multple pieces of hardware(i hope) peace
joshua
