copy track(s?) to clipboard

copy track(s?) to clipboard

2003-11-29 by trusolman

i asked this question in a previous message but it seems i did not do
a good job of asking the question. basically i would like to know if
there is any way to copy more than one track at a time to the
clipboard. what i would like to be able to do for example is take all
the tracks on bar 2 and copy them over bar 6 in one pass. the copy
track to clipboard only allows one track at a time as i can tell.

i have the most current operating system (2.0) and manual(same as
this group in the files section) as far as i can tell. you can
scale, shift, thin and even erase events on as many track as you
select, but not cut/copy/paste. this is really just a convenience
issue. if there is no way to do this currently, can the next OS
upgrade do this?

You can't do exactly what you're asking with one step, but there are a
couple ways to accomplish it.

Method A: Copy each track and paste into the new one. Many steps, but
since paste merges, it will work.

Method B: Use the "combine tracks to clipboard" function to copy the
desired tracks. Paste into an empty track. Then, use the "erase
track" feature twice to trim off the two sides of the measure you
wanted.

I'd recommend B...

i actually would like to keep the tracks separate, in their original
places. i guess i'll just have to keep it on the wish list

Wait, now I'm confused. Are you trying to:

A) copy more than one track to a different pattern at a time
B) copy a group of tracks to another group (like copying 1-3 to 4-6)
C) copy a group of tracks to a time later in the pattern

For A, if you have your tracks numbered the same as the channels (i.e.
ch1 on track1, etc) you can combine to clipboard, and then explode from
clipboard in the new pattern.

For B, you're kinda SOL...

For C, try the "extend" feature. It's not exactly what you're looking
for, but it might work. Alternatively, if you again have same numbered
tracks and channels, you could "combine", "shift time", then "explode".

Downside of method B (my choice too BTW, and what I was poorly referring
to earlier) is that you have to Erase the measures before and after Bar 2
seperately for each track. So while there's an easy way to copy that
info, it's a lot of steps to delete the unwanted data too. I'd love to see
an option in the Cut, Copy and Paste menus to apply their functions to all
tracks as well.

Maybe make the little track numbers in the upper left corner scrollable to
an "A" to signify ALL TRACKS or something. Would make a great improvement
for OS2.5 :) Or use the Track Mutes to select the tracks ala the
Quantize menu.

Method B: Use the "combine tracks to clipboard" function to copy the
desired tracks. Paste into an empty track. Then, use the "erase
track" feature twice to trim off the two sides of the measure you
wanted.

I'd recommend B...

Re: copy track(s?) to clipboard

A &/or C. i've used both solutions, but neither one really addresses
my want to be able copy bar 2 (2 or more or all tracks) and paste it
over bar 7 of the same or any other pattern. i know there are
workarounds, i just want a direct way to do it instantly. again, wish
list material. thanks for the suggestions though.
