S/PDIF crackles and pops

footnote to all of you who are experiencing problems with S/PDIF output of the XL7 - what you are descrbing is consistant with symptoms of extreme jitter - and I would guess that strapping the RCA ground to the chassis somehow reduces jitter....you may have better luck with a box like the Roland M-1000 which reclocks everything internally. That said - I have always thought that the D/A on the Emu boxes is quite good and ~pleasing~...so you may find easier solutions just recording the analog output. I have used the S/PDIF on my xl7 and never experienced any problems...but I do prefer to re-record the analog out at a good hot level that needs no normalization. fwiiw good luck Ed
