How do the sounds of the XL stack up to the PX? is there a rom that is the same as the XL that can be added? If not what roms are in the electronic type sounds? distorted and heavy, drone sounds, I guess you could say D&B sounds? thanks, sorry to be a pest to you all.

How do the sounds of the XL stack up to the PX? is there a rom that is the same as the XL that can be added? >>>Hey Aaron, do you (err..did you) post on nubreaks? Name looks familiar.... Anyway, the XL-7 has more trance oriented sounds for lack of a better description, though of course it's all about the context you use them in too. The PX_7 is mainly drums, though it does include quiet a few other sounds too and you could easily do a whole track with just that. I think it's important to really not look at what market they aimed each ROM at, and focus instead on what core soudns you really need. <<< If not what roms are in the electronic type sounds? distorted and heavy, drone sounds, I guess you could say D&B sounds? >>>None really sound dark and evil as they come stock from the factory (all of them are electronic sounding IMO), but it's easy enough to make up your own with any of the ROMs. Pretty much all the ROMs have the basic sine, tri, square waveforms on them, and at the end of the day that's all you need to do amazing things. <<< thanks, sorry to be a pest to you all. >>>Not at all, it's just really hard to answer the "what ROM do I get" question without knowing what you're looking for, what you have, what you'd ideally like, etc. Or should I say, pratty much any rom can be made to produce sounds vastly outside of the audience for which it was intended. You could make straight up happy melodic trance with the MP-7, you can make purely ambient soundscapes with the PX-7, and you could make dark ass evil DnB with any of them, given enough creativity and time spent learning the Preet programming. If you're not the type of person who uses Preset patches the way they are, then the type of ROM you get (within limits and with some exceptions like the orchestral stuff) is largely irrelevant. If you like to make your own sounds, then I would say the best thing you can do is go to a store that sells these, select the very last preset which is an initialized one (scroll real hard right with the dial). Then, enter Preset edit (called Preset at the very top by the dial), press the track 1 mute button twice, and just listen to the base waveforms instead of the presets. That will give you a much better idea of what type of sounds you'll have at your disposal, without the genre specific preset programming. <<< rEalm The information transmitted is intended only for the person(s)or entity to which it is addressed and may contain confidential and/or legally privileged material. Yea, that's me, I thought the handle was familiar. did you send me a cd a few weeks ago? anyway, well back to the command info I guess. at the moment I am working with a virusA,MPC,FR777,microkorg,em-1,tg-33 all at the home studio. more goodies at the project studio... nord 3, some crazy mono synths, and a sherman to make odd samples with and plenty of samples. so I have plenty of smaller toys to get rid of but I want to make sure it is replaced by something with power and substance. I also want to be able to free flow compose and not have to load a ass-load of samples first just to get started. creating my own sounds has never been an issue. I just need more to start with. Im not so concerned with the market its aimed at, but more for its capability of putting out "big" sound "real" sound if worked with. from what I read by you I think I can, I plan on going to the local GC on Friday and sit with it a bit. did you send me a cd a few weeks ago? >>>That depends, did you like it? ;) Yeah, that was me. <<< So I have plenty of smaller toys to get rid of but I want to make sure it is replaced by something with power and substance. >>>Well, to be honest the XX-7's can't compare to the VA's and real analogs you have. That's not to say they still don't sound good (they sound great IMO), but it is a decidely ROMpler like sound compared to those. Just a heads up. <<< I also want to be able to free flow compose and not have to load a ass-load of samples first just to get started. >>>That should be no problem then with the XX-7's, they are very intuitive, and once you know your way around one, you can write very fast on it. <<< I just need more to start with. They're not at all indicative of what these things can do. I can shoot you a CD I did of one of my live sets if you want, it's about 95% XL-7 (with the Protean Drum and Pop ROMS installed) and about 5% Roland Sp808. Let me know if you're interested. Actually, I'll probably put it back online now that I think about it, I'll send a link in a bit.<<< rEalm The information transmitted is intended only for the person(s)or entity to which it is addressed and may contain confidential and/or legally privileged material.
