XL7 ROM for ambient music?

XL7 ROM for ambient music?

2004-02-26 by synthwanker

hey all, I just purchased an XL7 to use for ambient/trip-hop stuff.
Does anyone have a suggestion for an EMU sound ROM that has a lot of
pads and rich synth sounds?

I was thinking about the Beat Garden ROM or the XLead V2 (which is
different from what's already in the XL7, yes?)

thanks,
R

Not enough to make it worth your while. Just download the converted
presets if you really must have the XLeadV2 sounds.

I incorporate much of the xlead and beat garden sounds into my dark ambient music, along with the techno synth construction yard rom. I manipulate these sounds heavily in software synths/ableton live, so this may not be what you are looking to do. I can tell you that the beat garden rom has some excellent sounds that are nice and "pure;" perfect for further mangling. Another thing I have noticed is that the drum sounds on these ROMs are just phenomenal. The beat garden drums are begging to be put into trip hop and minimal stuff. I highly recommend it.

I would think that that the P2K architecture is ideal for creating
ambient presets with almost any looped sample. Hmmm. I am wanting
to test this theory by creating presets suited for ambient music.
Help me out: can you give me a list of 5-10 characteristics of what
the presets should sound like/how they should be playable?

hey Nick, thanks for the tip on the beat garden ROM. From the
description of your music, it sounds like you know exactly what I'm
looking for. Pure sounds that are ripe for mangling would be great--
I don't mind tweaking them. But I'd prefer that they start out on
the spacey/creepy side-- rather than having to heavily modify bright
poppy synth sounds.

So do you have any stuff online I could check out?
R

EMU XL-7 and Beat Garden ROM For Sale

2004-02-27 by Larry Stites

Hello List -

before I put this on Ebay I thought to ask if any of you might be
interested. I have an EMU XL-7 that is in perfect condition with all
documentation, CD, original box - it's like new. Installed is the Beat
Garden ROM with all the excellent sounds inherent to that. The Beat Garden
also has original box, docs, and all that.

XL-7 has never seen the outside of my smoke free studio. Functions
perfectly, no scratches or blemishes of any kind. I can take some pictures
and send if you are interested.

I want to sell since what I really need is a set of two more simple drum
machines with buttons - not knobs - for live performance. These machines
will be incorporated with live drum set. I have used a set of two drum
machines in the past as augmentation to my drum set (stop/start pedals
arranged by High Hat pedal - two machines for smooth seqways between songs
and styles) and thought the XL-7 might be a good way to upgrade and expand
this capability. After having used the XL-7 for a few months I find that
it's too complicated for my requirements (overkill) and basically for live
performance operability I require big buttons to + advance and - retract the
complexity of pre sequenced patterns and rhythms. Knobs don't work when a
drummer who is playing with both feet and the other hand has to reach over
and get a different sound - turn too far, or not far enough, and your
screwed. I Have to have buttons and more simple machines.

anyone care to contact me with an offer - I'd be happy to hear from you.
I can ship out as soon as funds clear Pay Pal or other such arrangement.

Thanks
