Old World Inst. soundfonts = World Exp. ROM?

Old World Inst. soundfonts = World Exp. ROM?

2004-03-27 by Mark Pipher

I recently came across the EMU ³Old World Instruments² Soundfont collection,
which supposedly includes ³the very best sounds and instruments used in
E-MU¹s popular Planet Earth sound module.² The Planet Earth was just the
World Expedition ROM right? I really need this sound set and I am wondering
how close this will get me, if anyone knows.

Here¹s a link, with the Preset Listing.
http://www.soundfont.com/downloads/OldWorld.asp

Thanks.
Mark

Thanks for the sales pitch, but unfortunately I am not buying. Sorry. I do
need to correct you on a number of points, though.

First, these Soundfont package downloads are completely legal they are
released by E-MU! Hence the Creative logo, and "Soundfont.com from E-MU /
Ensoniq" graphics on the site.

Additionally, the Soundfont collection is actually two full banks from the
World Expedition ROM, as I have learned. That¹s much different than "not the
entire bank one". And it looks like many of the good ones are represented.
What is NOT represented are the ARP and BTS presets, which is
understandable. And with 256 presets, I am sure more than a few of the
"really good ones" are here. And at 1/10th the price you are selling your
units for, I think it¹s a wonderful deal.

Not to mention you can get at the raw samples and edit them, and build
custom drum kits. Try doing that with the Planet Earth or World Expedition
ROM.

I understand what you're trying to do here, and let it be known that I have
worked at large ad agencies for many years so I see right through it.

If anyone else has any opinion on these E-MU Soundfont collections, and how
they compare to the ROMs, I'd be interested to hear. I don't have much
experience with sf2 files or their quality.

Thanks.
Mark

Thanks for this link!! I bet most people who are lusting after these sounds would rather have them in their computers anyway. I hope this blows the air out of the dumb high prices for the World Expedition and Planet Earth units on ebay.

The mp3 demo song sounds GREAT. I need to look back into soundfonts again as they may be just the ticket for a nice laptop studio or any computer DAW now that computer power is so good.

RE: [xl7] Re: Old World Inst. soundfonts = World Exp. ROM?

2004-03-27 by Stu

I have the Old World Instruments double-CD for E-MU E4 samplers. It's really
good - one of the best sample CDs I have. I had an inkling it was the same
as the Planet Earth ROM when someone told me the Planet Earth had really
good Bazouki etc, which is what is on this CD.
I expect a lot of the Planet Earth presets are missing, but I would think
the instruments are all there. This is the same as the Platinum Phatt CD and
Mo Phatt ROM. The Platinum Phatt CD doesn't have the Mo Phatt presets, but
it has all the Mo Phatt instruments that are used to make those presets
(plus tons of other stuff they couldn't fit on the ROM)...

If anyone's interested I have a spare Old World Instruments E4 double-CD,
still shrink-wrapped, which I am willing to sell for 20GBP plus shipping
(which I promise will be the actual shipping costs and not a penny more).
It's compatible with any E4 sampler and also the new Emulator X (as well as
other sampler progs that read E4 format). Also you could probably use
Chickensys Translator to put it into soundfont format, but don't quote me on
that...

Regards,

Stu

|Hello Mark,
|
|Sorry, i really did not intend to offend you. I meant to assist.
|I counted the
|presets incorrectly. I apoligize for that. It looks like there

Re: Old World Inst. soundfonts = World Exp. ROM?

2004-03-28 by William McCoy

With all this talk about WORLD sounds, I thought it might be pertinent to
mention that I have found some great world stuff on the Protozoa ROM (from
the old Proteus 3 library) as well as on the Ensoniq Project ROM (from the old
ASR library known as Real World EXP-1). Both ROMS dish up some real
tastey world sounds that are definately worth having. In other words, the
World rom is not the only way to go if you are hungry for the ethnic flavors.
Peace.

Stu is correct. The Old World Instuments double CD-ROM (vol.7 of the
producer series) is a very nice collection of World sounds indeed. I have it too
and its definately worth owning. You can still get them directly from EMU off
their web-site and it comes bundled with the Platinum Phatt double CD-ROM
(vol.8) for only $29.95 for both. That's a really cool deal for 4 CD-ROMS total!
Here's the direct link to this offer:
http://www.emu.com/promo/cdrombundles/welcome.asp
These EMU CD-ROM bundles are very attractively priced right now i think. ;-)

RE: [xl7] Re: Old World Inst. soundfonts = World Exp. ROM?

2004-03-28 by Stu

Shipping to the UK is very expensive tho - they quoted me $60, which is
twice as much as the cost of the CDs. That works out at about 50GBP, plus
you may or may not have to pay import duty (I did), which works out as 8GBP
+ 17.5% of the declared value of the CDs, which would make a total of around
67GBP. 20GBP plus shipping is still as good price for people in the UK (It's
what I paid for one second-hand, before they started doing the bundles. The
one I am selling is brand new and still in its shrinkwrap!)

Stu

Stu is correct. The Old World Instuments double CD-ROM (vol.7 of the
producer series) is a very nice collection of World sounds indeed. I have
it too
and its definately worth owning. You can still get them directly from EMU
off
their web-site and it comes bundled with the Platinum Phatt double CD-ROM
(vol.8) for only $29.95 for both. That's a really cool deal for 4 CD-ROMS
total!
Here's the direct link to this offer:
http://www.emu.com/promo/cdrombundles/welcome.asp
These EMU CD-ROM bundles are very attractively priced right now i think. ;-)

Re: Old World Inst. soundfonts = World Exp. ROM?

I bought the Proteus 3 World Download (the cheap one) a few months
back, and the sample quality is fine, though normally I don't lose
sleep over quality differences I can barely perceive. Besides, I want
to mash-up these sounds ;-)

However, I haven't heard the World Expedition ROM - would like to
give it a spin - so I can't directly compare, but I'm happy with my
purchase.

I also bought the Pure Phatt and Planet Phatt soundfonts. The latter
has a small collection fantastic kits - a bargain at 15 clams.

Tootlepips.

The arps on the World Rom are really nice too, though I do for once wish
that the riffs on this ROM were included as arps too. Some of them are
quite good!

The beats and arps would be missing of course as you also pointed out.
