notes getting cut off in external gear

notes getting cut off in external gear

2004-05-14 by mike

I am wondering if there is a fix for this "bug" that I don't rember
hearing about. When sequencing external synths moving past the track
the sustained notes get cut off. I can select the track but then
when I select another track the notes being held release. This is a
pretty big problem for me as I almost only use external sounds.

Help!

one thing to try is to switch the note destingation for that channel
to both rather than int and then turn down the volume knob on the xl7
and see if that make a difference.

I don't know if it is the same problem but when controlling my Boss
SP-202 with my XL-7 I noticed that it wouldn't always trigger it. it
was weird sometimes it would and sometimes it wouldn't but I couldn't
figure out what the difference is when it works and not. with the
destination set to both it triggers it fine. I haven't noticed it
with any other external gear.

Ok I can't seem to make this stop happening it is not some thing that
is bothersome all the time but this is a pretty big bug if you ask
me. Is there a work around?

When you move through a track, it sends an all notes off for that track
if it's an external (or both) track. I suppose I thought this was a
good idea. It's somewhat of a copout instead of keeping track of every
note played via pads or soft-thru'ed MIDI so that you could send each
note off when you switch away from the track.

We do this for internal tracks (i.e. all notes off *just* for notes
played by hand) because the synth architecture made it easy, but the
data structures weren't there for the ext stuff, and I didn't have time
to put them there.

If you want (and can in your external gear) disable all notes off, but
then make sure not to hold any notes while you switch tracks, or else
you'll get stuck notes.
