xl mutes

hello is there a way to use a unit such as the fcb1010 ( a midi foot controller ) to mute and unmute tracks on the xl .. if it cannot be done by a direct midi signal to the xl can a cc be sent to say sonar that can then be used to mute the different chs on the xl ???
