Crash!! Need Fast Help...

Crash!! Need Fast Help...

2005-04-08 by Yegor Kudlatch

Hi...I've got a problemm here.
Just bought XL-7 on e-Bay with OS2.0 and in perfect
condition..It worked all fine to this day...
But today I were just playing with it when it had
suddenly frozen.. when i tried to reboot it, it won't
load...
What it can be and how can i fix it...Any Ideas?

If you can't get it to boot, reloading the software won't happen.
Try
taking the screws off of the bottom, then carefully check all of the
chips and make sure they are all seated properly.

eBayer who ve sold this station to me fooled me...
But then there is another question... Why it loaded
and worked fine?,,, by the way...it again started
workin in 30 r 40 minutes but then shuted down in the
same way, and now realy dont loads, no flashing
leds...only LCD showing some dots first and then
chaging to _ kind of symbl... whats happening?

Try re-seating the ROM(s). If the ROM contacts are dirty, use a pencil
eraser to clean. Are you running on 120 or 240 volts ?

Are you running 120 or 240 volts?

Also maybe there is some corruption in memory and you might have to
reinitialize the unit.

Are you doing USB or sysex transfers when this happens?

Is your AC power clean ?

Does it happen if you leave the unit alone or when you are pushing buttons ?

Did the original owner have any problems ?

Hm...today station was tested by one friendly
specialist in electronics... the problem is somewhere
in contacts on the controller board... he'll try to
cure it... I think that fuckin eBaer sold this unit
just because of this problemm...he's looser and
junker... XL 7 is a heaven machine if its in normal
state...
thats my opinion...
i use 220 volts...
and play Cyber EBM\ Ex[erimental Electro and some
times CyberShaman ambient music...

I asked about the voltage because the unit runs hot with 220 volts, which
may lead to other intermittent failures due to the excess heat. We
recommend using a 220 to 120 volt adapter for powering the unit.

Hope they find your problem....

In a different terminology, that would be the crystal used for the
microprocessor oscillator/system clock....those can be damaged from shock or
other mechanical types of failure internally......very glad your technician
found it !
