A couple of new tunes...

A couple of new tunes...

2005-04-27 by mike

I put them in my yahoo briefcase if anyone's interested in listening. They're in the New
Stuff folder within the Music folder. Here's the address:

http://f1.pg.briefcase.yahoo.com/mikedancy

I'm too lazy to give them names- just demo 1 and demo 2. They're both all emu (px7)
recorded straight into my cd burner (going through mixer and eq first)

I've been taking piano lessons for six months now. A few more years and maybe I'll be
able to write using chords :p

Demo 1 is pretty organic. It sounds like a TV soundtrack of some sort... Has a certain "band" feeling... doesn't sound like coming from one piece of kit only. Criticisms: the piano is too "in yer face" for me.

Demo 2 sounds like early Depeche Mode. Again, i feel that the piano is too much all over the place (perhaps the piano lesson had made you to not notice that :) ).

Over all i like the structure of the songs. We are too used to 8 bar loops that evolve forever, and these sound like you could sing over them.

Thanks for the feedback! I got the same response from my friends regarding demo 1 and
the soundtrack feel. One of my friends was thinking about putting a guitar track to it. He
also talked about lyrics. I'm interested in how the dynamics would change.

I think I know what you're saying about the piano. When I tried taking some of it out, the
song seemed too light- like the synth stuff wasn't carrying enough weight on it's own. I
figured I'd go with it for now. I'm sure I could do better with transitions between parts too.
I think I suffer from Musical Attention Deficit Disorder. After 4-8 measures, the music's
got to do something different :p

My preference is more band-oriented. That's what I was going after with demo 1.

Thanks again!!
Mike
