How do I completely reset my unit?

How do I completely reset my unit?

2006-08-20 by benjaminwg

I accidentally started saving new sequences downloaded from the net
(.mid's) onto my XL-7 without giving bank assignments. So it started
saving over the original presets in the active memory, then the PC and
XL-7 combo gave an error and stopped the process before the first
saves even completed. Right now it gets stuck on the "XL-7 Command
Station Ver 2.0" screen and the only button that lights up is the tap
button, which flashes three times then does nothing. Is there a
button combo you press to have the unit completely reinitialize
presets from the ROM's? By the way, I tried reinstalling the OS and
while it worked it didn't solve this problem. Thanks!

Ben

"power it up while holding both cursor bottons.Select "initalize user
date" then select reboot."

Keep in mind that this only resets the system and the internal
patches - the "preset" songs and patterns need to be loaded back into
the unit using E-Loader.

Ok, thanks! So you can't just reload it from the roms? Guess
that's loaded separately and the roms are just the samples and some
simple melodies.

I did some diagnostics and it said there were some problems with
MIDI looping and that blks 2,3, and 4 had problems on the Pop ROM I
just got. But I played all the sounds and they were fine. I also
haven't noticed anything odd with the MIDI, though on a lot of
default patterns the reverb seems to go crazy when you switch to
edit certain tracks, like 11, 12, 13, etc. Not sure if that's a
defect, though. I've been sending MIDI into the XL-7 to control it
like a turntable, and that seems fine, so I don't know what it'd be
talking about with bad "looping".

Also tried a bunch of .mid files, obviously only one at a time on
this go round, and most internet electronica SFM's suck. Either
they're just one short track, but not in the right SFM to be a song,
or they're multitrack but not constantly looping...instead with all
the tracks open the loops just rest/cut-out on their own. It's not
proper multitrack design at all (i.e. loops play continuously and
you have to mute/unmute them to perform a song). And this doesn't
even address the pain of the presets/samples not being properly
designated to their respective tracks when the sequence first
downloads. I can obviously correct that easily, it just takes
time. The other issues with them aren't as easy to solve. Anyone
know where I can get some good MIDI's of either quality original or
classic electronica tracks that are condusive to the XL-7?

MIDI looping would show as a problem IF you did not loop back the output of the MIDI to the input during the test...that is why it is called MIDI loop test....

I see. So you need a single cable connected between the input and
output for the test to work.
