hey guys!  Ive been away for a while (years), but im back making music 
with the xl-7.  So .. where is everybody ? Aaron still about?

Welcome back Kevin.  Yeah, I'm still here!  That said, I haven't worked
at E-mu for a about 4 years...

Yah, original one.. I still need track down a world exp rom it..

did any1 ever make a windows based preset editor?

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
