copying rom samples.

copying rom samples.

2007-03-19 by Alwyn

Apologies for the cross-posting..

Has anyone had any experience of copying the waves from EMU roms onto
their sampler hdd's?

i have the xl7, proteous2000 and vintage roms and i'd like to copy a
few of them onto my sampler and use that to play a few of them..

I seem to recall that people mentioning that the patches won't get
copied, but eh.. its mostly the waves i want..

Does anyone have any tips??

Cheers,

[zar]

I know that with the E-Mu Ultra Samplers, you can put ROMS in and
access the samples and the EOS presets. You cannot access P2K based
presets. I don't know if the ROMS have any samples that are strictly
for P2K based E-Mus.

Be careful not to write anything to the ROM; you might accidentally
trash the P2K presets and you will end up with a ROM that only works
in the sampler.

Hope this helps.

Are there EOS patches on the P2K expansion sound ROMs? I was under
the impression it was only Proteus2K patches on the ROM, and that the
sampler just created base level presets from the instruments list in
the ROM.

Can anyone confirm/deny?

I can confirm this is true - you can only get the samples, and no presets

The P2k *instruments* correspond to EOS presets. The P2k presets are
not available to the EOS sampler (they're on the "baby" flash).

So it should, theoretically, be possible to re-create the P2K patches
(almost) in the sampler by copying over the modulation routings to the
matrix on the EOS. I say "almost" because the routings don't exactly
match up and the EOS has no preset level patch-cords (but you can do
some interesting panning things with the chorus ITD on the EOS that
you can't do on the P2K).

The down side is... it would be a lot of manual work to copy over or
translate all of those parameters.

there is also the bit with the filters, my emu doesn't have anywhere
near the same amount of filters as my xl-7. though i am running os2.0
on the xl7 and only 4.61 on the e5000

Well, i only want a few of my favorite patches from the vintage rom,
so i guess that won't be a huge problem to copy them manually.. :)

THanks All..

I'll let you know how it goes..

The Formula 4000 Protozoa CD-ROM has P1, P2,P3, Orbit, Vintage, and
Phatt samples, presets, and instruments. Perhaps that might work for
you. I found mine on e-bay. The price range used to be between $9.99
and $19.99 plus approx $4.00 - $5.00 for S&H. Not sure if it has the
presets and sample you want, but it might.
