Using the MP7 to control external sound modules

Re: [xl7] Using the MP7 to control external sound modules

2007-06-04 by Alwyn

i've never personally tried it but i was always under the impression
that it could

i think if you set the track's output to be external it will drive
external stuff, or mute the internal channel and have the unit
transmit all midi it will do that..

I'm going to try that. Yesterday was attempting to run a sequence from
the Mp7 to a Triton Rack. Sounds internally recorded but the ones that
should have been pushing from the Triton - nothing. Like no external
data via midi was being sent. I'm going to dig deeper. There has to be
a way. Thanks - Alwyn,

Hi,

I'm doing it all the time.
I drive 8 external hardware synths and effects from my XL7
through an 8 i/o MIDI interface in standalone operation (Emagic AMT8).

Works without problems for me ...

Regards,

    Zsolt

i have 5 devices connected to my mp7, and control them using the
internal sequencer without any (unknown) problems..

was this a general question or are you having certain special issues?

Thanks Chris,
I 'm going to be testing that setup today. My final question to you is
does it lose the ability to send both signals at that point, which
seems pretty much obvious - but I have to ask any way.

RE: [xl7] Re: Using the MP7 to control external sound modules

2007-06-04 by Chris

This is actually done in the very same menu..

In the Pattern Edit menu one of the last menu-settings is called "assign
channels" (or similar, i'm currently not at my gear) and in the bottom
row, it shows you the selected midi channel on the left and "dest:" on
the right.. the values for "dest" can be set to "int", "ext" and
"both".. i guess it's self-explaining that "int" means internal, "ext"
stands for external and when having the value at "both", the data is
used for as well internal, as external communication..

i actually use the "both" setting quite often, to combine the sounds
from my roms with pads on my samplers or other gear..

I rarely use both because then the programmable knobs' MIDI
messages are not sent to the external instruments.
Otherwise works as expected.

Re: Using the MP7 to control external sound modules

2007-06-05 by Liquid Saint

I got ir rocking last night after some midi cable manipulation. Not
having enough and too much gear was definitely an issue. Also got over
some major sych issues. Good experience and now I understand a good
deal of the basics. Still more functions I haven't tested yet. But a
good piece - I am happy with it in my collection.

Thanks everyone. Now if we could just keep the dialogue and leave the
spammers to their male enhancement, questionable hook ups, and dream
vacations - that would be cool.

Much thanks Alwyn, Chris, Zsolt.

In addition to the excellent discussion your question prompted, you
might want to check out the archives. There are been a few
discussions related to your topic. One is the "Sequencing Hell"
thread. I seem to recall it led into the discussion of track usage.
Here's the link to what I bvelieve is the first message.

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
