Using the mp-7 to sequence battery

Using the mp-7 to sequence battery

2008-07-11 by solacerodgers

I have a mp-7 that has a busted rom board and want to use it to
sequence battery with. I have it triggering battery and able to assign
the controls but it will not playback. I have the midi chan's set
correctly and local control turned to off ( as there is no internal
sounds ) but can not get battery to playback the midi sequence. Anyone
used the xx7 as a midi sequencer before and what am i doing wrong?
Thanks all.

Do you have the track destinations set to EXT instead of INT? That
would be my first guess.

My second would be that your MP-7 might not be working correctly...
If it won't read ROMs how do you know there aren't other issues?

Re: [xl7] Re: Using the mp-7 to sequence battery

Well I dont know what is all wrong with it but heres what it does do. It sends and receives midi notes as i can trigger battery from it and use the knobs to make adjustments to cc# and it receives midi because i can sync it with ableton and make the sequencer run with it. The only function that fails in the diagonisis test is the sound rom ( test where it reads each simm slot and fails all 4 ) I have another mp7 that works perfect but I figured i would save this one and use it as a midi controller and save it for spare parts as they are crazy expensive everywhere i have seen them. Thanks.

MIDI channel: EXT or BOTH

MIDI OUT: A if connected to A, B if connected to B

TRANSMIT KEYBOARD: ON

Those are the necesary settings to transmit note information. If this doesn't work, problems are located on the other device

I think I did not have midi chan set to external. I am about to go mess with it some more and see what i can get. If anything else I could use it with the good mp-7 as more tracks to sequence on. Also does anyone know if there is a point in having 2 of the same roms? I have 2 xl-7 ( xlead version 2 ) roms and only have 1 installed does anyone want to trade or need 1 of these cheap?

I would love to trade it but if you have seen the price for replacment parts they are so expensive. Just the pads run about 180 bucks with knobs and power supply almost as much. If someone wants to make me a decent offer or trade for it i would consider. Thanks for signing up on the new forums as well, be sure to tell everyone.

Ok got it for anyone who cares. You have to have chan set to external or both and also set to omni mode. Now I will see what can all be done with just the mp7 as a midi sequencer. Do you know if you have to have a ROM installed to load midi files and use the arps/riffs? I would imagine so.

ROMless E-Mu sequencers (was Re: Using the mp-7 to sequence battery)

2008-07-12 by steve_the_composer

Regarding using E-Mu boxes w/o Sound ROM installed:

I haven't tested this recently, but here's what I seem to recall:
Command Stations/P2500:
--You can use the sequencer to just control external gear.

Command Stations/P2500/and 1RU P2K modules:
--You can use user arp patterns (00^0 ->99^0), but you cannot use
ROM arp patterns.
--You cannot use riffs (including bts), since they are stored on the
Sound ROM.

Also (in case you haven't figured this out yet), instead of
assigning each track to a specific channel (01A->16B), you can use
MultiA or MultiB. That way (for example) you can have (A) 16 synths
on port A with each receiving data from a unique track and you can
have (B) a multitimbral synth on port B receiving data from its own
track.

Hope I remember this correctly and hope it helps.

BTW, if I am right, you can use a ROMless P2K (sometimes referred to
as a doorstop) as a standalone 16 or 32 channel arpeggiator.
