Anyone try the analog solutions europa yet? I'm either going forward with the Sequential Studio 440 or the Europa next.
I am definitely nuking my command station.

Yeah, nice bits of kit undoubted. Used a Mopho. Great.
But where's the do-it-all-live-in-a-box command station alternative????
Sell me your XX-7 instead of nuking it.
D.

I have a new Roland MV-8800 and a classic black ASR-X. But really don9;t use either.
I think the SP1200 and the 440 will be my swords of choice. They're both are 12 bit and have the sound I prefer. You can have my PX-7 blue LCD's with rack ears, original box with foam, original owners book for $450 firm. No roms included as they have all been sold. I need to unload some things for an Emulator EIII purchase that I have lined up.

Thanks for the emails. I decided to keep it after all.
It makes a nice Ableton controller.

with all the junk i have had over the years.. i am convinced that there is no perfect box for "everything". it doesn't exist. if it has sick analog filters, it sucks ass in the LFO department or has crappy waveshapes, or the effects are really weak. if it has a cool sequencer than the voices sound horrible. or if the drum voices are big and round and thumpy than the you find out that midi is lazy and lethargic. and you find out that some pieces just don't play well with other pieces of kit and hate each other. but there is no perfect box out there. it's doesn't exist. so i think the best way to approach all this is to think as all your machines as one big machine or each machine as small components to a bigger machine. because messing with all this stuff for years... i come to the conclusion that sometimes machines can do something really really well over other boxes that that no other machine can touch in ease of use and execution (and actually being fun). and then it's lousy in other aspects that another box totally picks up the slack. take for instance the resampling feature in the ASR-X. i totally love it. it's just taken the best feature out of each box and then scrapping the rest of the worthless features as fluff. it is what it is sometimes with these machines.

but the PX-7 for "me" is an amazing pad sequencer. i absolutely love the realtime recorder and the ease of use to lay layers of swirling pads down from sampled hardware into ableton and then be able to hit record while it's playing and have it capture the vibe and keep adding more and more. i can build amazing fuzzy walls of sound this way. then it's so easy to sample to the ASR-X hooked up Emu 0204 soundcard and juggle these textures back and forth without too much hassle. i've tried doing this kind of thing for years and it was always a pain and left me pissed off and disappointed. there is a physical satisfying flow there that i really like when using the CS for this..

aye.

what's working for me, right now, is an XL-7 set up with six individual
outputs, going into six outboard multi-effects.

i've got plenty of other much-coveted synths, but this is what i'm using
right now to MAKE MUSIC :)

it fixes my biggest complaint about the XL-7: limited effects.

i'm about to drop for the roland RSS-10.
hard to find effects processor with some sick 3D doppler and reverb presets with a ton of air. they're pretty hard to find and the software is a real pain but worth it. you can draw your own fly-by paths. sounds really cool
