"Not Installed" message

2012-10-20 by acejones66

Hello everyone. I am new here and I am happy to have found this group. Just reading lots of the older posts have help me a lot.

I however have a major problem. I have the PX-7. I have also installed the XL-7 and Phatt expansion ROMs.

However, I am getting no sound all of a sudden from the unit. Not even the factory installed ROM is giving any sound. When I go to presets, I get a "not installed" message or Instrument ROM: ?????? and under that "not installed. I do know they are installed. To be sure, I opened it up and made sure they were seated properly. I even took them out and moved them around. Nothing helped. The message was the same. The ROMs are properly installed.

I have a local repair store down here in Virginia who have told me they will look at it, but at $95 an hour, I want to make sure it is not some setting I have accidentally set that is causing the issue. I would appreciate any help in solving this issue.

Thanks.

Rick.

Try installing just the PX-7 card in slot 1 by itself again, then check sounds, if no sound, do a factory reset. (Hold down both cursor buttons on startup, I think it's number 18?) Maybe that will help, it shouldn't cost that much to fix. check with http://www.eprelectronics.com/ first.
Good Luck.

Thanks. I already did try the PX-7 ROM by itself and it was not detected. I run the diagnostics and there too all the ROM were not detected. I did a reset as you suggested but the ROMs were still not detected. There is a pretty good music/audio repair shop near where I live in Virginia (Music Technology ) and the guy says he fixes them and will take a look at it. I am hoping I can fix it myself. If not, I will send it in.

Sorry that you're having this problem, I've had sort of the same problems but luckily never needed to send the units in. I used an eraser "carefully" to clean the connectors on the ROM and that worked one time. Sometimes the connectors just get old and that's it. The main boards are $192.99 but If someone is good with the soldering gun? Who knows.

Again Good Luck, and welcome to the group.
