I know this is probably unrealistic but:
It would be totally cool if you could select which midi tracks got stored too, you know set a master pattern and track (Tempo, effects etc) and then grabbed tracks from multiple patterns and assigned them to new tracks on a hybrid pattern. Kinda like a multi mode except at design time...

DOWNLOADING A BANK

2002-05-15 by Stéphane KAY

Hi everybody.

Does anybody notice that with
E_LOADER 1.1
We can't upload/download an entire bank ?
Does anybody worry about it?
OK. Some will say that I can upload a bank through SYSEX.
But it is "pretty" long to do this so.

QUESTION :

HOW CAN I SELECT THE XL-7 BANK NUMBER THAT WILL FIT THE DOWNLOADED FILE.

e.g. there are some bank files @ emu.com. But bank numbers are default
(0,1,2 and 3) I want to push them to 4,5,6 and 7.

Yes, you can too use E-Loader to download entire banks, and I found some
pretty cool features regarding this (and any multiple file/pattern
downloads) last night while preparing for a live set this weekend. To
upload or download a bank of patterns, just select all of the patterns
(CTRL+A) and then select the file folder where you want to upload them.

Now for the fun stuff! Say you've got a lot of patterns that you want to
download to a bank, but you don't want to use the same bank that you
uploaded them from. First, select all of the patterns you want and put
them in your download list. Now, select them all if they aren't already,
and hit "CTRL+I". this will open up a new window allowing you to change
the data type (pattern, song), bank number, and pattern number. The cool
thing, is that if you've got multiple files you want to downlaod, you can
specify where you want them to start loading at (ie what Pattern Number),
and they will download sequentially from that point!

Example: I had a bunch of Patterns (actually 12 all together) from
various Banks that I wanted to assemble into one bank, to make them easier
to find live. So I selected all the saved Pattern files from my hard
drive, and added them to my Download list. From here, I arranged them in
the order I wanted, then pressed CTRL+I. This opened up a new window,
where I could specify the new bank number, as well as specify that I
wanted to download all of the Patterns starting at P:001. Hit enter and
confirm, and they all downloaded. Now, all of my patterns for the live
set were in the same Bank, and number sequenctially from Pattern 001,
regardless of what Patten number they were saved as. Huge improvement
over E-Loader 1.0 for this reason! Great job Scott!

RE: [xl7] DOWNLOADING A BANK

Hi.
Thanks for your reply !

I just want to point out two different problems. #1 is about banks of
PATTERNS,
#2 about banks of PRESETS.

#1 is not very important. You already replyed that is is alway
possible to do something in order to avoid the problem.

But #2 is a real problem that E-LOADER do not support at all.

****************************
#1 BANKS - PATTERNS
****************************

CRTL+A select all sequences OK, and Edit->Select All as well.
-> CAN'T DOWNLOAD MULTIPLE SELECTIONS : its just specified here below !

-> OK, It is possible to SAVE AN ENTIRE BANK selectng the PATTERN BANK,

But "Get All sequences" is producing 128 .mid files and not some unique bank
file.

****************************
#2 BANKS - PRESETS
****************************
THere is nothing for handling banks of PRESETS : just midi sysex.
BUT
E-MU is profiding some files (xl-1 banks) that are defining some PRESETS
banks 0-3
AND
what I want is simply load one of these files into bank number 4-7 and NOT
default 0-3.

What it could be fine too is SELECTING a bunch of PRESETS instead of
downloding all the set at once.

Its there any simple solution to do this?

OK, It is possible to SAVE AN ENTIRE BANK selectng the PATTERN BANK, But
"Get All sequences" is producing 128 .mid files and not some unique bank
file.

>>>There is no specific 'bank' file, just create a folder on your hard
drive for each bank and upload all the associated patterns to that folder.
If you use the USB port, this is really quick to do. <<<

BUT E-MU is profiding some files (xl-1 banks) that are defining some

>>>Hmm, I see your point. Yeah it does suck that E-Loader doesn't handle
Presets (yet), and the only option right now is to back up your 0-3 banks
as Sysex, then load the new sounds into the XL-7. Once in there you can
(gasp, don't kill me here) copy them one at a time if needed to the new
Banks, then reload the Sysex for the 0-3 banks you saved earlier. Sucks I
know. Scott, any update on the Preset deal with E-Loader? E5? <<<

...And if you have a loosy USB chipset on your moterboard, you just can sit down and cry...

With USB or not, the problem is that handling a stand-alone bank file is much more easier than a thousend of files of 1k.

It is important to KEEP INTERGITY between both PATTERNS and PRESETS.
A pattern with a wrong presets mapping is just shyte even if you worked 10000 hours on it.
Have a try overloding default user banks with xl-1 bank files. You'll be surprised of the result on your current patterns!
