Oh boy, NOW I did it

Ok, I know someone has had this problem before, but I thought I'd 
post it to see what you're opinions are.

Oneof the little LED's fell out... It's actually not an LED though, 
it's a clear plastic led "scope" - Anyway, so it fell out, & I took 
the liberty of taking apart the machine retrieve/repair it.  Now I 
removed the board where this one is located.... and they all fell out 
(from the knobby section) - Anyway, it looks like they need to all go 
horizontal, so I could just repair it and maybe have the problem 
again (things only 2 weeks old) - Anyway, has anyone used any sort of 
adhesive to PERMANANTLY fix this?  Or any other ideas?

Yeah, those things run around when you take the boards out don't they...

Since you've already opened it up (otherwise I would recommend taking it 
to your dealer) here's how to put it back together.  Put the front panel 
face down on something that doesn't push where the knobs go (so you can 
put the knob board back in without it bumping anything).  Then, one by 
one, put the lightpipes in with the two prongs on the left and right 
(horizontal).  Then put the board carefully back down on the lightpipes 
and screw it back in.  I suppose you could put a little blob of 
superglue around the top of the lightpipe ring.  Make sure they all dry 
before you put the board in however.

Aaron thanks for your (quick) input!

I'll give it a shot.  I think that maybe ruber cement might be a 
better idea - less destructive.  That SUPER GLUE can get pretty messy 
sometimes.  (HELP!  My hands are stuck to my face)

Yes ruber cement worked great!  I just put a little cement over the 
hole and put the lense in.  

Few...  now if I could only master the arps section!

Yeah, I know Emu DOESN'T recommend it, but is it pretty easy to get the 
knob board out?  Do the knobs just pull off?  I'm seriously thinking about 
doing a custom paint job on mine, and then having a third party 
re-silkscreen the lettering on.  Anyway, for those that have pulled it 
apart already, is it difficult to get the case by itself?

Realm,

It's easier than taking appart a PC imho.  The knobs all pull right 
off and they aren't held down by any bolts.  The board its self is 
held down by 6 screws.  I didn't attempt to take off the Display 
board, but i'm sure it's a piece of cake.  I'm actually thinking of 
setting the pots with bolts, but I want to check into it more and 
make sure it won't put unneeded presure on the motherboard.  

I was thinking of doing a paint job as well...  Let me know how it 
turns out!   Are you going to have all the labels put on?  Maybe if 
you want to go silk screen, some members of the group (me) could go 
in on it and we could send it around the country.  I think as long as 
you clean the screen, it is completely reusable.

That sounds fun!� I'd love to cool down that Pill-poppin' Yellow glare this thing gives off.� Paint it cobalt blue or something.� I told the E-mu rep last week that color choice was a big factor in my decision between the XL and the MP.� Ultimately I took the XL because the sounds fitted my purpose better, and they didn't have an XL ROM in stock I could buy and add to an MP.� No offense if that yellow is someone's favorite color, but yeah, I'd paint the sucker Novation Blue.� Mmmmm.

Yes. The colour scheme would have been somewhat hip about twenty years ago.

I'm having mine gold chromed, with furry purple trimmings, a blacklight underneath the keys and knobs, and hinges so you can open it up to show the insides.

Why am I suddenly seeing a parallel with the muscle car circuit?

Ya think MIDI carries enough voltage to light up an undercarriage?� Maybe...

I can't deny that the cable I used to hook up my live rig (Gepco 61801EZGF) was totally a cosmetic thing (it's sky blue and gives off a nice tinge under blacklight).

We're all ready to personalize our MP/XL's -
I really don't know what color I'd want. Maybe I should try a EVEN MORE crazy color scheme with this thing. Like... Pink... and BRIGHT blue.
Actually I think most people dig the dark purple of the MP on first sight. The orange is pretty out there though. I actually thought these things were MUCH smaller when I first saw them in the catalog... I was thinking "looks like a BOSS Jam Station'... Which believe me, is not a good impression at all!!
However, I am quite glad that I went beyond the cover and am now reading the BOOK!

Man oh man didn't someone say they made wooden ears for these things? How about an oak veneer to make it look like it was organic sounding! With the labels carved in! OR NAGAHIDE!!!! YEAH!!! With the buttons! OVERSTUFFED AND OVERCLOCKED it could read..... ;)

We're all ready to personalize our MP/XL's -
I really don't know what color I'd want. Maybe I should try a EVEN MORE crazy color scheme with this thing. Like... Pink... and BRIGHT blue.
Actually I think most people dig the dark purple of the MP on first sight. The orange is pretty out there though. I actually thought these things were MUCH smaller when I first saw them in the catalog... I was thinking "looks like a BOSS Jam Station'... Which believe me, is not a good impression at all!!
However, I am quite glad that I went beyond the cover and am now reading the BOOK!

I don't know why you seasoned XL/MP hackers need the lettering at
all. How long would it take to memorize the control functions on the
front panel? Once that's done, you could have a unit that's just
... black.

Well ya all got me thinking about it and have to say if i where to 
bother with making this box look as my own I would have to go for 
sompthing like this....

I would strip all the paint off it all together and use a metal 
buffer to bring it to a nice sheen and then place one of my logo 
stickers to the space above the high C pad.  Then have my local bike 
painter clear coat it and bake it so it was a tough as nails.

And to top it off I would replace the little red LED's in the quick 
edit section with nice new blue ones!

Oh man that would be sweet.


Hmmmmmm lest see 30 hours of work and about 100.00 in cost not about 
to happen i personaly dont mind the yellow to much it is easy to see 
in the dark :)

Here's my current choices, not sure which way I'll go yet (leaning towards #2):

1. Get the case chromed (got a hook up from all my car's parts), and have the letters screened in dark blue.
2. Use that chameleon paint, so that it fades between purple and blue irradescent, letters in very light blue.
3. Paint is metallic green, letters in white.
