Which roms to get!

Which roms to get!

2002-07-13 by David Jones

I'm still trying to figure out which roms to throw into my MP-7.. I obviously already have the mophat. Here's a background of what I'm doing: Drum & bass with a lot of heavey breaks. Right now I'm using a sampler for most of my drums because i'm not finding a lot of drums that i like in the mp. A few. But not many. I need a wider mix of different snares and cymbals. . . I'm pretty sure I'm going to get the planet earth rom. . . but from there I have two more slots to fill. ALso I need some fatter pads and stabs... Like the old jp8080 supersaw feel. and many others. . . I imagine I would get this from the XL rom. How is the TSCY rom? I also like to use strings a lot so i was maybe thinking of the Proteus. ... I have a few nice strings in the mp, so it's not a huge concern. DAMMIT I wish I had 8 slots to fill :D
Thanks for your inputs in advance

as far as the sounds of the proteus rom, it is laid out kinda wack... it's
very hard to find the instrument you want.... they are not broken down into
the "bas, pad, prc" standard.... well, some of them are, but not all.... very
confusing.... also some of the sounds are kinda flat sounding... at least to
me... especially if you compare the proteus sounds to the xlead rom or the
TSCY rom.....

the xlead and TSCY roms both impressed me mightily... plenty of dynamic
stuff, lotsa edgey gritty pads,stabs,sfx...etc..
the xlead rom is really short on drums tho ...only like 4 kits and 6 prc
sets... but the TSCY makes up for this with more drums and kits then i know
what to do with...

as someone who seems to be doing stuff in the same relative vein as
you..(dirty dirty jungle;hardsound)(heavy broken beats...dark atmospherics)
i would definitely give the xlead and TSCY a big recommendation.... as far
as the proteus rom? i'm kinda dissappointed with it.... get the other two
first and then see if you still really need those strings!

What are people's impression with the beat garden ROM? in comparison to the XL1 and TSCY roms?

The P2000 rom has some decent drums in it, especially for the more "real"
sounding breaks (which I do too). Also has sone good pads and lots of
nice strings. I think it's a really nice all around sound set.
