Song Mode and Pattern Mode

I've been trying to do this to hell and back, but every attempt leads to nothing more than my Command Station freezing up and needing to be completely reset.
What I seek to do is be able to bounce back and forth between pattern and song modes, I'm guessing it's not possible at this time, but I just thought I'd check with you all and see if anyone here happens to know a way to accomplish doing so seamlessly.

If you have a complex song, it can take some time to get it to load into, 
I assume, memory.
