CUBASE SX

What do you think about cubase sx ?? is it a good way to prepare sequence
with cubase or is it better to work only on the XL7 ??
Thanks

I like to use cubase to move pieces around in a
pattern or a song. But I usually do all the ground
work on the XL7. I think it it is really up to you and
which method you are most comfortable with. The more
tools that are available can always open up more
expressions into the final mix.

Just to add to the confusion, I'm gonna recommend Sonar. I've tried
almost all of the sequencers out there, and Sonar has the best MIDI
implimentation in my opinion. I tend to get the foundation beat set
up in Sonar, where I can use groove quantizing and nifty stuff like
that on a beat, and then record it into my command station. After
I've got a few measures uploaded I usually just cut and paste the
measures using the hardware. Also, since multi-channel recording
doesn't work right *yet* in grid record mode, this lets me get around
playing in real-time, which I suck at.

I'd like to add me two cents...
I've used just about everythign out there also, and I have found
Sonar the best by far. I do real-time recording almost exclusively,
and Sonar has a very tight clock. The SonarFX are quite good too.
It can easily be used as a final step, mastering device also.

Good Luck !!

Is that a question a joke?

Any PC sequencer is better than MP7/XL7, not cause it
is bad, becausee you have the graphic interface.

What makes a sequencer with a graphic interface better (in some
objective sense) than, say, a sequencer integrated into a sound
generator with a lot of dedicated physical knobs and buttons?

The XL-7 sequencer beats the pants off Digital Performer for knocking
up and working with patterns, grooves and ideas really quickly, and
besides, not being a computer, it's not as distracting to the creative
process. Digital Performer is clearly superior for the real "heavy
lifting" of sequence recording and mixdown.

Personally I love SX, it's ten billion times better than VST5 IMO.
However, I will say that Steinberg is having some teething problems with
the implementation of XP's direct music, and that some people have had
issues with the MIDI Clock timing as a result (myself too, to a small
extent). So you can quite easily work on your patterns in SX (and use
MIDI plug ins too!) but the timing MIGHT be off a bit, depending on your
system. Lot's more info at www.cubase.net forums.

I just got news that Apple has acquired Emagic. The news is that it
will be discontinuiing the PC version Logic. So, if anyone is on
there way out purchase Logic 5 for PC. Now would be the time to
consider other packages. If you have a Mac and a PC, there is
supposedly a free crossgrade to the Mac version.
