MP-7 for a Midi Guitarist

Is the MP-7 a good application for a Midi Guitarist looking for something that will serve as a portable sound generator and midi recording studio? That can be used for live gigs and studio work? Both as a live backing unit and a sound generator? I really like E-Mu products. I have a very old ESQ-1 that I use quite a bit in my home studio. The MP-7 has a great price and sound. Any advice or input would be appreciated.
