Colourscape gig pics and some MP3

2002-10-09 by Nick Rothwell

I've uploaded a couple of pictures from a recent gig performed inside
something called Colourscape:

http://www.cassiel.com/misc-images/csrig.jpeg is the rig - the XL-7
and the Motor-Mix are the performance surfaces, the PowerBook runs a
Max/MSP system, there's a pair of Nord MicroModulars mounted right
behind the XL-7 in the rack, and the black boxes are ... black
boxes...

http://www.cassiel.com/misc-images/csview.rig is the pilot's-eye view
into part of the Colourscape - needless to say the JPEG doesn't do
justice to the visual effect.

I've uploaded a recording of the live set itself to:

	http://www.cassiel.com/mp3/cyberlive.mp3

(It's about half an hour of music, 28Mb in size, but most decent
browsers will stream it.) It's rather clubby, and something of an
interactive sequencing orgy, but see what you think of it. (Play
spot-the-XL-7 even.)

That's a right mess of cables you got there Nick! :) Second link did

Way cool space Nick, where does the audience sit though? Reminds me of
when I saw Hawtin at the release party for "Consumed", just plain cool
environments everywhere!

Very very cool, both visually and musically.

Google found this: http://www.chiltern.demon.co.uk/Colourscape.html

Gee, I thought New-Age was dead. :)

Actually, given the technical sophistication of the rig, the cabling
is reasonably under control: there's a (rather untidy) snake to the
mixer, some MIDI plumbing, and mains power. Most of the data flow is
digital, in fact: the PowerBook has a CardBus PCI bridge to the Magma
cage contraining the Oasys synth, and the Oasys has ADAT lightpipe to
the mixer.

You want cables? I can give you cables:

Anywhere, basically, it's a promenade space: the pilot's-eye view is
across the central "performance" space - there are corridors and other
spaces in various colours surrounding it, and it's fed with an
eight-channel PA with speakers pushing sound through the membrane from
outside.

Yup, that's the bunny.

Nope, just serene and chilled out.

Is this a home-studio factory? :)
Some music-school gear?
A special performance setup?
Or? ...

Clueless.

Unfortunately, I've signed an NDA so I can't tell you what they do.

However, http://www.cassiel.com/misc-images/carts2.jpeg shows two of
them doing it.

Oh, and to you bright sparks currently trying to fetch carts3.jpeg:
nice try.

Say you did'nt see it coming, you teaser. :)

I bet it's some networking audio/midi rig a la Steinberg system-link.
Or a multi-channel performance rig. Mmmh... maybe not.
Or some Apple, E-MU, M-Audio merchandising stuff. :)

Again, way cool Nick, I'd love to do a live set in a space like that.
