Sound Roms

2003-01-17 by rawkilluminati <rgarcia75@houston.rr.com>

I just Got an MP7 and Made my 1st 2 patterns...I am loving this
machine!

It allows me to put my ideas down quick when they pop in my head
where ever I may be!

I just Ordered My 1st Expansion Sound Rom in The World Expidition Rom.

I should get it tommorrow if I love it I will Probably get
another ....But I am not Sure wich one would be best.

I produce hip-hop & Rap Tracks of course......But I am interseted in
experimenting with various Sounds......Has anyone messed around with
any of the Orchestral Roms, the Lead Sounds, or Vintage Roms?

I am interested in them all but not sure which to get 1st/2nd?

any feed back?

I have a mp7 loaded with the World Expansion, PROM (Proteus -
Composer), and Orchestral Vol. 2 (woodwinds and brasswinds, string
sections).

I highly recommend all these roms, MP7 has good current hip hop
sounds, and some awesome starting points for creating your own
sounds. the World Expansion is a MUST for flava', the Proteus Rom is
great because it has a Composer's set of sounds, real general purpose
sounds the you will find you are using on EVERY sequence. And I like
the orchestral because it gives you those 'real' sounds that you
would only be able to get by having a microphone and a bunch of
musicians.

I have my eye on the Vintage Keys and B3 also...

Hope this helps, I really don't think you'll be unhappy with any rom
purchase...

Save your money and buy a cheap sampler to go along with your MP7.

Any good reccomendations on a good "cheap" sampler... Is good, and cheap and
oxymoron?

Deffinatly not an oxymoron. Mirage, Emax I, both less than $200 and
sound great. OF course they are limited in features but have analog
filters and will add a lot of character. Then there is the Yamaha
A4000, goes for around $500 with extras (memory, drives etc). Nice
effects and filters, great buy. Also look for Akai S1000/900 for
very cheap (about $200). Cleaner than the Mirage/Emax if thats what
you need.

Overall you'll probably want to get the A4000. It does the most for
the amount of money. Get the other samplers when you want some extra
grit.

I produce Hip Hop and R&B tracks and Beat Garden, Ensoniq project and
the Vintage rom are a must. If you have a sampler you wont need the
Ensoniq project as much because a lot of the sounds can be found on
other samplers like and ASR-10 or ASR-X.

Peep these two sites for sampler sounds as well,

The World Expansion is very top notch for any production.

Along similar lines, I have both the xl7 with the Vintage Keys ROM
installed and the Emu ESI-32 sampler. One of the CD's I got for the
ESI is a Emu Vintage Keys collection which duplicates a lot of what's
on the ROM. And considering that a CD is 650MB and a ROM is 128MB,
it's no surprise that the sounds on the CD are clearly superior to
the ROM. The Mellotron string sample is 30MB alone, and it really
shows. I just checked ebay and ESI's are going for $177. Now, you'll
probably have to throw in some kind of SCSI mass storage (hard drive,
iomega) and a SCSI CDROM, but if really sounds fabulous and I've
found the ESI reliable and very easy to use.

That being said, the Vintage Keys ROM is a hoot. The old string
machines (Elka, Solina) and the analog basses are worth the price of
admission. If you don't want to mess with separate boxes, it's a
great little chip.

Hope that helps.
