Emu XL-7 & MP-7 User's Group

I am using the XL to control my E5000 but evry time i go into the 
edit the loop points in the E5000 i cant control the loop points due 
this constant sliding of the loop.  It is supper odd becous i dont 
see any midi info going in or out of the XL, the only reason i am 
posting here is it did not do this befor i hooked the XL up to it.

If this turns out to be sompting withen the E5000 sorry to bug ya all 
with it.

Well I'm not sure but it sounds like what happens with my e6400 
Ultra... When editing samples the start and end times can be 
adjusted with the pitch bend wheel via MIDI.  So if you're trying to 
edit the loop points of a sample on your e5000 while playing a 
sequence from the xx-7, and have pitch bends in the sequence, 
that would cause the problem you described.  As far as I know 
there is no way to disable this "feature,"  you just need to stop 
play on the xx-7 or take out the pitch wheel messages when 
editing the samples.  That's my guess...

Thanks for getting back to me bigben.
I know what you are talking about there but it continues to happen 
when the sequencer is stoped! And the pitch controller has no affect.
I don't get it.

Another thing i dont understand is this.  I have my FX sends set up 
as i want them on the E5000 then i hit stop twice and the FX change 
to other sends! This would be supper cool if i could control them 
some how but I i have no idea what my XL is sending that might me 
dooing it.  I have the program change dissabled on the E5000 so it 
can't be that.  

I dont get it, and it be anoying!

I would love to hear form one of the E-MU boys on this stuff ;)

Hope some one out there knows what this stuff is all about.

EOS and XL-7 both use controller #79 to control FX sends.  XL-7 stores these
values for each used track.  To edit them, go to the global menu to the MIX
OUTPUT page.

Actually, that sounds pretty annoying. But there is some heavy duty 
fun that can be had with the modulation of sample start point 
parameter.

If you have a waveform that is a set of sources stacked (like say 8 
of them) doing a PPG / Walforf style sweep.  The sample is about 2 
seconds and loops, but it more or less goes through this spectral 
mutation along the way.   

Then you make a preset to run with an arp, so it is short and sort of 
percussive, make a bit of decay with some delay as well.

Then have a tempo locked LFO move the sample start point around, what 
happens is that the timbre of the sound changes over time (say the 
LFO is set to 4 measures).  Pretty wild effect as the character of 
the sound is changing dramatically.  All of this without using the 
filter at all.

Sweet sweet geek talk.  I have also had some great luck with 
recording odd voice stuff, like layering my two way radio that i use 
for work (bike courier) with some beats.  Like all the clicking and 
so forth.  I am going to talk to the folks at this fire hall and see 
if i can record there horns and sirens so i can use the waves.  I am 
totaly digging the new microphones I picked up a couple of months ago.
Envriomental sounds are a great as wave forms.  Like take a odd lip 
smack or the sound of hitting a pen on a desk and use it with a arp 
or retriggerd LFO and run it through some reverb and it be sweet.  I 
could go on but ill save it for IBGEEK ;)
