Mastering

2003-02-17 by joesapo <joesapo@yahoo.com>

I was wondering...

Does anybody use any post-recording mastering products? One of the
main reasons that I purchased my XL-7 was that it sounded great
right out of the box. After messing around with EQ's and levels and
compression with software studios, this was perfect for letting me
concentrate on actually making MUSIC. I've got my recording stuff
all setup (going to an Audiophile 2496 w/ 24bit recording) and it
sounds good, but I still want to be able to tweak the sound here and
there, deepening the bass and stuff like that. Are there any VST or
DX plugins that I can use to give my recordings that professional
sound? The easier to use the better. Thanks.

I would highly recommend T-racks. It's a tube emulating Mastering suite. Sells for about 200.
I'm also using Cakewalk Sonar, and the Timeworks Compressor is wonderful.
And I suppose if you're not already using is, Wavelab could be handy, it allows real-time effects. So you can mess around and get the sound you want without auditioning or actually processing the audio.

But T-racks is awesome. For real.

I swear by the Waves Linear Mastering plug ins, but they are expensive.
Ozone's Izotope is another one that's ok and much cheaper. I personally
don't like T-Racks at all though, but I'm sure I'm in the minority there.
