Volume

Volume

2003-05-06 by pranaearth

I've asked it before, but I'll ask again:

How can I get my volume level of my XL7 louder?
I dont see how Crystal Method do it.
I'm trying to record with my XL7 and I have to turn the volume level
WAY WAY down on my other gear to even hear my XL7. It's sooooo quiet.

If I can't find a solution, I'm going to have to sell this for
something that can compete volume wise with my other gear.

Help? Suggestions?

Thanks for both,

Prana

Not sure what you are doing wrong but the xl-7 is fine volume wise.
If its not the volume knob then maybe you have a midi volume set low
or the input of you mixer etc... i set lower.

Well, you can try:

- Raising the AMP Vol on each preset.
- Increasing the midi velocity.
- Layering more tone within each preset.
- Turning up the volume knobs on each track ;)

Thanks for your reply Jesse,

I am using the SPDIF output directly into the SPDIF in of my
soundcard.
In the mixer applet for the soundcard, the SPDIF volume is turned
all the way up.
The meters are registering at around 10 when I play mt XL7.
This is with my volume knob on the XL7 turned al the way up, and
with the indiviual volume of each track turned all the way up.
In contrast, my volume slider on my Karma, and XP60 are turned 3/4
of the way up, with the volume slider in the applet turned to 3/4 of
the way up, and the meters are going into the red and the sound is
distorting.

The problem exist if I use 1/4 inch cables too.

I just don't understand how this beast can be so quiet.

The SPDIF outputs are quiet by design. The idea is that if you
have some really wacked-out filtering going on, your resonance
could get so loud that it would clip, so EMU dampened the
SPDIF output.
As for having the same problem when using the 1/4" jacks, I
don't know what to tell you. I use 1/4", and I actually have to turn
my XL7 down in order to hear the other gear in my setup.
