volume controll and controller vaules

hello every one.. is there a way to set the xl vaules volume/controller values NOT to jump to the immediate postion the knob is on but to the programmed vaule of the preset. I find this to be of more vaule. Some time in the heat of a mix if you choose the volume setting and for some reason the knob was turned up all the way the as soon as you touch the knob .BOOM ..no good.
