[xl7] problem w/ output

[xl7] problem w/ output

2003-06-11 by jm213213@aol.com

when Im making a pattern and I use the headphones the panning works fine.
but when I go into some speakers its like i have a short in the headphone jack.
when I pan a track to the right it cant be heard. I have messed with the
cord and try to put it in like halfway and i can hear out the right side. its
not the cord because i tried 3 different ones. I dont know why it works fine
with the headphones but not with a cord into speakers. any ideas? and is it hard
to replace the jack?..thanks

This will sounds very stupid, but are you sure you're the right outputs?
I've accidentally plugged into the wrong outputs in other gear before and
not realized it... Maybe it's an amp or speaker issue? Did this just
start happening recently?

ive tried coming out of the headphone jack and out of the different outputs
from the back of the xl7. ive always used headphones till recently. Ive tried
it out of my computer and out of a different mixer. right now im coming out
of the main output R and it is working.. although the panning is not working
at all.. maybe because of my computer set up??? but if i come out of main
output L im still getting the same problem.. but still it could be me doign
something wrong that i dont know..

So you're only using one output, not both stereo main outs? Here's an
excerpt from the manual (page 16) that might help you out more:

"The Right Main output jack carries a mono mix of the left and right
channels when the Left Main plug is not plugged in.
The Left Main output jack is a stereo jack carrying both channels when the
right output jack is empty."

problem w/ stereo then. cause when im coming out of the L output tracks that
are panned to the right side are barely coming out but when i pull the cord
like halfway out and hold it there i can hear it out of the right. sorry if im
not making sense but i dont know all the correct terms. and thanks for your
help realm

That's because you're probably using just a normal 1/4" cord right, not a
TRS one? The normal one can only "hear" one channel, L or R depending on
how far it's pushed into the jack. To hear both from only the one output,
you'd need to get a stereo cable, or an "Insert y" cable. Why not just
use two cables, one for each output? Much easier....
