Yeah, same league as the MPC4000, so I'm guessing about $1695.00 street
price, if not more.

Which is basically what you're doing anyway. Not really, it has a totaly different feel. Theres more than just pads, plus its more portable (un;ess you use a laptop)

I meant the Roland. According to the spec list it's linear-only, no patterns, no RPS, no mute buttons, no grid edit. It's basically a glorified tape recorder. A friend of mine has the MC-80 and aside from the excellent RPS feature I didn't find it particularly interesting unless you're allergic to software (in which case you might be better off buying a Q-80EXE for a quarter the price). --- In xl7@yahoogroups.com, erik_magrini@B... wrote:

The spec list was far from complete I'm sure, we'll know more after next Friday most likely. <<< A friend of mine has the MC-80 and aside from the excellent RPS feature I didn't find it particularly interesting unless you're allergic to software (in which case you might be better off buying a Q-80EXE for a quarter the price). >>>Yeah, I've changed my mind on it too. Good if you want a strictly hardware based setup, but definitely can't touch software. <<< rEalm --- In xl7@yahoogroups.com, erik_magrini@B... wrote: > If you mean the Akai sequencer is rudimentary, yeah, maybe. Theres more than just > pads, plus its more portable (un;ess you use a laptop) I'm sure the feel is different, I just don't think the difference in feel makes up for the relative loss of functionality. The MPC-4k is a compromise between a DAW and a performance tool that in my opinion excels at neither: an XL-7 is more immediate, a laptop is more versatile. Obviously lots of people swear by them, but I'm not one of those people.

Roland does have a bad habit of leaving out features sometimes...seems like they could use a little more communication between product teams.
