Re: [xl7] Sound rom prices

32 megs of sound is A lot of sound, even if you aren't programming your own. The fact that the command stations have dropped a lot in price doesn't mean the roms are not good value a their full price. It's like getting a whole new synth, which to me is a steal at under $300. However, isn't there a 2 for one deal going on at Emu or something?

I have checked a few places online and all are priced at $279.00 . Now
I dont want to complain because I love my XL-7 but I have a hard time
shelling out over half of what it cost for the main unit just for 32MB
of sounds. Also I cant find the proteus pop collection listed other
then at emu.com . Any chance it was discontinued? Thanks to everyone
  here for all the help.

Re: Sound rom prices

2003-07-13 by tcdave

Well,

The original cost or MSRV was $1395 so $279 doesnt seem that bad....
besides the sounds are incredible. Consider this....You try sampling,
editing, looping, and programming sounds/samples and you will
understand that it takes alot of time for each sound. Before I got
my XL7, I sampled every sound on my EPS. It takes ALOT of time to
get the sample to loop right and to adjust timbre and all of that.

I would rather be composing than messing around with the technical
end. Just my thoughts.

I never said 32MB was not a lot of sounds. I just think they could
lower the price a little. As for the 2 for 1 deal I did not see
anything at emu.com but will check again.

Thanks

Thanks for the reply but that doesnt answer my question. FYI I do my
own sampling and editing with my ASR10 so I know what is involved. I
still believe E-mu could lower the price on the roms a little. Anyway
Im just trying to find any deals that I might have missed. Is that so
wrong?

Thanks

Re: [xl7] Re: Sound rom prices

its not wrong to try and find deals. But mainly I think you are not being realistic to compare the price of a vastly reduced in price XX-7 unit with the cost of roms. Anyway, there are some deals out there and even some people might sell you a rom used. What are you looking for?

I am looking for the Porteus Pop Collection, Beat Garden or Techno
Construstion Yard and Sounds of the ZR. The Beat Garden and Techno

Again Thanks

I agree with you on costs, yes it takes alot of work to sample and program a rom... however if you
price the roms in such a way as to discourage some or even create the inability for most to
purchase... at 150 I'd probably have purchased all the roms by now.... ;) but who wouldnt have...

anywho..

zzounds.com has the Peter Siedlaczek Advanced Orchestra for 149.95 (Due 7/20/2003), Emu Protozoa
for 99.99 (7/20/2003), Beat Garden for 149.95...

I'm gonna grab the AO and BG for a total of 300... already have the purephatt on order... (thats
one rom which i dont hink you'll ever see for less then 250...) which I'm more then happy to
pay...

anyways hope that helps... cheers!

These prices are also at Americanmusical.com but are out of stock. I
also notice that the Roland 64 meg SRX ROM's are now cheaper than
most Emu ROM's. I would not mind a price war. :-)
