The @@@@@@@@ or %%%%%%% in the display is usually the PSU needing a refurbish (caps), or one of the ribbon cables needing a re-seat, and is common across the range of 6/12/Xpandr. Same for the all edit lights on and no display.

2 other things to keep in mind are RFi - such as 3g/LTE mobile phones and WiFi can cause unstability, and MIDI overflow. The 12 and X especially have a low tolerance for MIDI problems, and if You are on the end of a chain of 2 or more IN-THRU, You need to expect lockups, especially if there is some midi in the chain that is generated using a PIC implementation. Modern MIDI devices really can have problems with early complex MIDI like that in the 12/X.

Lastly, check what socks and shoes You are wearing. the 12/X and 6 have poor tolerance for electro-static discharges. so even a small amount of static buildup from your feet rubbing on the carpet or furniture can cause strange behaviour that can linger even AFTER a power cycle.

None of these things will cause lasting damage, but if You see the @@@@@@@, lights all on or PROCESSOR 1 FAIL alot, you need to isolate the device and see if that helps.
