On my Xpander, each pair of oscillators are always a bit out of tune with each other.  The amount of detuning is different on each voice, but consistent per voice, being off by +/-3 cents.  The tuning procedure doesn't resolve the issue. Nor do hours of warmup time.

Of course, it does create a nice analog slop to patches, but it just doesn't seem right.

Any ideas on a cause, or solution?

could it be something set in the GROUP pages? You know, the section where you can set up multitimbral routing and splits and so on? vaguely remember this on my m12, and it was caused by overlapping groups, or was it a rogue group set to OMNI?

Also, hate to be capt. obvious here, but have You tried a full factory reset? back to stock everything with the factory patches is a good way to ensure it's not something hardware-related. I know the M6 can suffer some very odd problems from corrupt patches, maybe You just need a fresh start to clear things up? Obv., back up the patches You have if they are valuable.. (etc.)

So I tried a full reset (holding "clear" down at power up) but same problem. (Which I discovered BTW, leaves patches intact, but wipes master settings.)

Each time I ran a full re-tune, the oscillators were all off by different degrees.

But, perhaps not coincidentally, a new problem has arisen. Voice One is now extremely quiet, and the others are of varying volume. This points to hardware problems that others have reported. I'm going to do some research, but it might look like it's time to go under the hood...

Aha!

For future reference, I found the (now obvious) cause of my quiet and inconsistent voice volume:

I was monitoring the Xpander from _just_ the Right output, but the reset/default Pan settings spread the voices across the outputs. E.g. The quiet voice #1 was actually fully panned to the Left, inaudible from the Right output.
The other voices incremented in volume from 1 to 6. Of course, patching from the Left output reveals the inverse: Voice #6 is quiet and the others increment in volume from 6 to 1. Patching from the Mono output, all voices have same volume.

So, lesson #427: Doing a reset (holing clear at power up) sets the Master->Pan voice settings to the default: LEFT-LF2-LF1-RT1-RT2-RIGHT. If you are monitoring the Left or Right output individually, the voices will sound from progressively quiet to near silent.

Possible solutions include:

-Monitoring via the Mono output.
-Monitoring output from Left and Right simultaneously, i.e. via a mixer.
-Setting the Master->Pan settings to MID-MID-MID-MID-MID-MID. (Of course, these settings will be set to the defaults again if you do another system reset.

Now, back to my tuning problem...
