battery change, when ?

battery change, when ?

2008-08-17 by synthesizeuhr

I recently checked my battery and it still looked like new but it could be disastrous if the
damed thing started to leek someday.

Has anyone done a battery change yet on their Xpanders/M12?

Hello There Synthesizeuhr,

Common wisdom is to change your backup batteries every 10 Years.
I have never changed mine, And It is still working. I notice If
you put it in storage and don't turn it on for sme time (6 months)
some patches start to fade away. Or just become Init patches.

I have not seen that brand of battery leak before. Usually a bunch
of white crystals just form at one end. But I have seen many Korg
Polysix's become almost un-repairable because of the battery leaking
on the circuit board, and then the circuit traces disolve.

On the OB8 if you loose the battery, you loose the calibration values,
and need to do the cal over.
You need a 4 digit voltmeter for the cal, although you might be able
to get away with a 3 digit voltmeter.

I changed mine 1x in 20 years so that´s right. The 2nd battery is still working here since then, no leakage.
.

Thanks
Perhaps it's safest to make a change soon since the Xpander is +20 years by now, what
type of battery can be used as replacement?

Hi !

I think this will work ...
http://cgi.ebay.de/New-BATTERY-OBERHEIM-OB-8-OB8-XA-II-Sequential_W0QQitemZ250282414876QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item250282414876&_trkparms=72%3A823%7C39%3A1%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C240%3A1318&_trksid=p3911.c0.m14

ebay item 250282414876

contact the ebay shop, - if it´s 3volts, it´s o.k. IMO

Hey All,

Tell you what, You can buy brand new versions of this battery from
a company called Digi-Key. They are on the web Digi-Key.com and have
distribution in Europe, US, and I think Far East. I have done
business with them for years and they usually have great service and
stock. The only problem is the $25.00 min "US" order. What we should
do is buy several. I would happily do this for the US guys. I would
for Europe too, but I think shpping to Europe would make any savings
on cost moot.

Hi All,

Ok, Sorry I checked the Digi-Key Websites in Netherlands,
Belguim,France, and spain to no avail. It seems the only place Digi-
Key stocks these batteries is the US. Part Number P226-ND.
I do not know anything about international shipping, but If you guys
can help me on this matter I would be willing to aquire these
batteries and ship them to you. I guess I could get a paypal account
to deal with the costs. It also looks like there may be some ROHS
issues "the batteries are made of Lithium".
