Xpander Voice Anamoly

2007-01-19 by andyelectro69

Greetings! M.J.B. from Analogue Heaven informed me of this group.

My dream of owning the awesome Oberheim Xpander has finally come true
but the unit has a problem with one of the voices. I have uploaded a
small mp3 that illustrates the problem.

Thanks for any help. The self tests for VCOS PW RES VCF & VCA all pass.

My favorite quote from the manual:
"We've put twice the computing power of an IBM PC inside the Xpander,
but even so it can only count so fast!"

Best,
Andy

Hi,

You could try and change the position of the CEM3374 chips one by one
to see, if and whichof the the chips is broken. If the non-working
voice is despite changing the chips always in the same position, then
something else must be broken.

Before anything do a factory reset and run all the other tests. I think
there are some more in the Service Manual.

Good luck!

Can't listen to your audio file at this point but I'm wondering if
we're not having the same problem. Basically, my XP is behaving as
though it has a "stuck note". Even after being powered down,
retuning, resetting, etc.

Any thoughts?? THANKS!!

Dylan

i seem to remember something similar when i got mine....did you do the total reset according to the manual? i seem to remember there are a few resets...a midi msg rest and a big, 'soft' reset...power up the xpander while holding clear and say yesy to resetting the memory...don't think it will kill all your patches but it might so beware

Hi,

Could it be that your MIDI keyboard is sending a note? This happened to
me and was solved by changing the MIDI settings of the keyboard.

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
