How about Cubase 4? Can it be used as a MIDI Editor, or are vintage MIDI editors better for a 
reason or an other?

I heard than MIDI-Quest is able to be used with an Xpander. However, a hardware controller 
like CME Bitstream 3X could be useful for automated controlling in real time.
