"putters out". What do you mean? LEDs illuminate for a second and then it
goes completely dead?

Pssst mate. Strictly between you and me here. Service manuals for Roland
equipment can be obtained from Roland ;-) Contact your closes Roland service
department and buy a manual off them. Roland are excellent when it comes to
supplying manuals and spares.

As they are. You might find the electronics inside as equally challenging!

Maybe you've got a dead PSU in there, or the micro is failing to initialise
for some reason.
