Why Sure....
It was called the Hydraulis (sp?)... I thought it was of Roman
manufacture. It used water flowing into a chamber beneath the
pipes to generate the compressed air. Clever... and no seals to
wear out... but you have to finish before the water comes out
of the pipes.
I've heard rumors that the 'keys' were rather hard to actuate...and
other rumors that they were not that bad.
I don't know of any surviving examples.
