Some diagrams and a brief description can be found in "A History of 
Mechanical Inventions", by A. P. Usher (Dover, 1988, reprinted from 1954 
original). It had a dome-shaped air chamber inside a tank of water. The 
weight of the water regulates the air pressure, which is supplied by a 
mechanical pump. There was also a version driven by a wind wheel.
